Summary/Abstract: The chapter discusses the most important elements of UE evolution in 2023, with special emphasis on EU’s international position. A starting point in the analysis is the question of whether Ursula von der Leyen’s Commission delivered the political programme it presented in 2019. The problem of EU’s positioning as a geopolitical actor leads to the question of future enlargement with an emphasis put on Ukraine and the importance of welcoming a country at war with Russia. The closing section deals with predictions and fears related to the upcoming European Parliament elections and a possible surge of Eurosceptic populists who flourish in the political environment characterized by permanent securitization of migration issues.
