Summary/Abstract: This contribution offers an analysis of the new Georgian law “On Transparency of Foreign Influence”, which was forced through by the government and its parliamentary majority, notwithstanding the problems it poses in terms of respect for many fundamental rights and freedoms. The strong mobilization of citizens to denounce the text, called “the Russian law” because of its similarity to a federal law on “foreign agents”, which was adopted in Russia in 2012, and which aims to suppress any dissenting voice, did not impede the adoption of the said law, which poses serious threats to democracy and the Rule of law.
