Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes financing from the budget the development of communes with special natural values. It concentrates on two communes Krośnice and Stronie Śląskie, in which a part of protected areas in the total commune area amounts to around 69 and 79% respectively. Between 2000 and 2007 in both communes the financial income increased, but the pace of growth as well as the structure showed a clear difference. Stronie Śląskie bases first of all on its own revenues, while Krośnice concentrates on raising European Union funds that help to make investments. The structure of expenses in both communes is also different. The commune of Krośnice invests first of all in municipal economy and in the environmental protection, while the most important position in the expenses of Stronie Śląskie is education. To sum up, though the local authorities of both communes are sensible of the meaning of sustainable development, the commune of Krośnice realizes this idea in practice.
