Tourism enterprises’ functioning in the conditions of risk and uncertainty

Summary/Abstract: The article presents two goals – a cognitive and a utilitarian one. It has been decided that the following factors constitute basic risk sources in the functioning of tourism enterprises: weather and natural disasters, economic downturn, loss of employees, growing competition, interruptions in business operations, changes in regulations and standards, as well as loss of reputation. The collected empirical material allows for an observation that tourism branch in Poland achieved worse economic results in the period of 2007-2009 when compared to the service sector and an overall national economy. Anti-crisis tools were distinguished and divided into two groups – related to management flexibility and local development.
