Summary/Abstract: Recently, the need to provide tourism to those who have limited access to it, has become a frequently discussed problem. This seems to represent the paradigm of the concept of social tourism and sustainable tourism. Therefore, very close relations could be observed between both concepts. The condition for implementing the idea of sustainable tourism is sustainable production and consumption in tourism. The objective of the article is an attempt to identify the significance of social tourism in the process of tourism consumption sustainability. The critical analysis of the available, both Polish and foreign reference sources, allows for concluding that social tourism represents the method for tourism consumption sustainability. Adopting this thesis became possible as a result of comparing attributes characteristic of social tourism and sustainable tourism consumption. Nevertheless, the examples presented in the article illustrate that there is still a lot to be done in practice in this particular domain.
