Summary/Abstract: Šiame straipsnyje siekiama apžvelgti lietuviškosios nacionalinės tapatybinės savivokos raidą ir aptarti lyginamosios metodologijos taikymo galimybes šio pobūdžio tyrimams. Analyzing national identity concepts, dichotomy between “ethnocentric” and “citizen” identities is stressed by a number of researchers. Rogers Brubaker, Anthony Smith, Pierre Bourdieu and others point two possible contradictory explanations. Later, such a distinction showed weak explanatory power in when applied for the analysis of formation early post-Soviet years. Rather, “ethnocentric” understanding lies comfortably within state-centric aspirations of post-Soviet Lithuanian nation. Even dichotomy disappears when depending on, how “nation” should be understood. Important components of national identity formation – state borders, state language, citizenship model, security perspectives – were (re)constructed to the “secure identity” concept. Comparing with other neighboring countries, Belarus case is to be interpreted as underwent complex developments by formation of voluntarism based hybrid, based on concepts of “golden Soviet past” and strangely understood conservatism
