Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper was to analyse the changes of consumption and food self-sufficiency in the EU in the years 2001-2011. The results show that fairly significant changes in self-sufficiency occurred in case of the products with the dynamic changes in the level of consumption, i.e. cereals, beef and veal. The enlargements of the EU had an impact on these changes too. In particular significant changes were observed after the accession of new countries in 2004. In the structure of consumption the role of the cheaper plant products has increased while self-sufficiency in cereals has decreased.
