Summary/Abstract: The present paper presents a new approach towards a guided discovery journey, by means of an e-learning project revealing the hidden, yet everlasting presence of mathematics in the world around us. By combining a questionnaire, a theme-focused course designed on the Moodle platform and two research projects, we try to stimulate students in their quest for mastering practical applications of the mathematical notions they acquire during the first university year.
