Summary/Abstract: Best packing problems come out of real world problems: in VLSI design, with the constant demand for minimizing the interconnect fabrics area and for extending the number of blocks placed on the microchip area, in nanotechnology with the research for new molecular structures obtained by inserting a greater number of new atoms, in aviation, rail, ship and road transport with the acute demand for cheaper fares obtained by increasing the density of the packages and decreasing the volume of the containers. Various methods have been proposed either for finding the best solution to such problems or the best approximation (an optimal solution). The present paper presents some of these approaches in an interactive way, by using the e-learning technologies of a Moodle course, Java applets, 3ds, Gif and Flash animations.
