Summary/Abstract: The accentual paradigms of Lithuanian nouns are traditionally determined according to the place of stress in the dative and the accusative plural. For didactic and for pure linguistic purposes, it is important to be able to determine the accentuation classes using other cases as well. These cases can be vital if one deals with the proper nouns declined in singular only or if the paradigms of nouns in early printed texts, dialectal or spoken discourse are limited. The accentual properties of nouns can be revealed using a morphonological analysis. Any set of cases that includes the strong non-attractive and the weak non-attractive (or attractive) endings can be used to identify the accentuation class, and sometimes even one case suffices. The paper presents a detailed analysis of twelve declensional paradigms of Modern Lithuanian nouns and describes the cases (or sets of them) that indicate their accentuation classes.
