The Deviant Norm

Summary/Abstract: The deviant horm is not based on mutually accepted experience. It unilaterally poses what it stands for. The institutions the deviant norm exists through do not produce a universal and generally accepted meaning. Its observation does not correspond to the individual strategies of the separate agents. Only the outward collective action is regulated by it. Deviation itself is presupposed by the deviant norm — it is through the exercise of power outside the context of the generally accepted and rationalized social agreement that the latter enforces obedience.
