Summary/Abstract: The concept of transculture suggests that we need to stay outside of a culture in order to understand the peculiarities of its identity. This paper attempts to find traces of this idea within the narrative of both insiders and outsiders. Interviews both in the academic sphere and among in- and outsiders in a semi-rural Swiss village are carried out and evaluated by objective hermeneutics. The empirical analysis indicates that even in pre-designed contexts it is hard to trace transcultural approaches because people are not yet ready to give up the clear-cut distinctions between what is inside and outside
