Summary/Abstract: In our European society we are used to consider that the power is in the hands of the government and is exerted by some particular institutions such as local governments, the police, the Army, which transmit and apply the orders. Currently, in a globalized world, the political power is also exerted by a few other institutions above and below the nation-state, „external” to its proper structures. An increasing number of scholars are talking about non-nation-state centered modernity, societies which are functioning „apart” from their governmental bodies and the increasing distance between citizens and their representatives. If this is the overall context we wonder that Romanian case is or not an exception? A short answer cannot be drawn easily, despite the fact that certain common trends are already visible, especially since December 1st 2007 when we have entered in the „EU-family”. This paper will approach the accession equation in the light of local-global dialectics, through socio-anthropological and juridical lens. The theoretical insights concerning EU and Romania’s statuses, within a game with 27th players, are counterbalanced here by opinions collected from our respondents in the last years of our fieldwork.
