Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to answer the questions: what are the motives of coopetition relationships, and which of them are the most important in the Polish hightechnology sector. Research conducted on a representative, due to size and industry, sample of high-tech enterprises found that the most significant motives for undertaking the coopetition are: the access to the market, the need to reduce costs, including transaction costs, strengthening the company’s position against competitors from outside the arrangement, and expanding the scale of operation. In turn, the least important motives are: the need to reduce uncertainty and to adapt to the requirements of globalization. However, the significance of particular motives varies depending on the stage of company development and its position in the sector.
