Summary/Abstract: The aim of the present paper is to analyze the strategies used in the translation of the toponyms present in children's literature. We are using the example of the Polish translations of The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas to observe tendencies and regularities in the translation process of these elements in a diachronic perspective. The analysis of 53 toponyms occurring 175 times has shown the translators’ preference for a literal translation of the sites inside the city, during the interwar period. This stands in opposition to the prevailing tendency in the years following World War II. The rejection of a literal translation of the toponyms is accompanied by an increasing number of loan-words.
