The impact of tourism on local development

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to identify the course of changes in the area of tourism and their assessment from the perspective of tourism importance in local development in selected municipalities. Subject literature studies were used to explain the relationship essence between tourism and local development as well as one of the aggregate measures of multivariate comparative analysis in order to identify the importance of tourism in local development based on the example of 6 municipalities. Literature references emphasize the extensive diversification of factors considered in analyzing local development and competitiveness, including tourism function development, the choice of which is justified by researchers while applying diverse methodologies. Expert or statistical approach are most frequently used depending on the adopted theoretical basis, which most often takes the form of a tourist function, tourist potential or tourist destination dynamic competitiveness (ex ante) concepts. The highest importance of tourism in local development is observed in Karpacz and Zakopane, whereas the lowest one (among the selected municipalities) in Wisła. The research confirmed that the largest diversification of tourism impact on local development is caused by factors from the group of tourist potential functional resources.
