Summary/Abstract: The article presents the findings from the analysis of the current status and directions of improving the process of managing the careers of professional soldiers of the Polish armed forces. It shows the results of research and analysis undertaken in the framework of a two-stage research project WZ/742/DzS which was carried out by the authors in WSOWL in 2008 and 2011. The content of this article is to diagnose the key design criteria of professional career of soldiers based on the existing system of issuing opinions and the designation of a soldier to the official position and the release of this position. The article critically assesses of service practice in this area, paying attention to the problem of scale, but also the lack of reliable principles of selection of candidates for selection (including the key to the armed forces) positions. The main finding of the research is to postulate the formation within HR professionals (HR) the central careers office, which is responsible for implementing the personnel policy of the Ministry of Defense in the field of effective forecasting of human resources development and its effectiveness monitoring.
