Summary/Abstract: The text "The shepherd bitten by a snake" is known as such, but unfortunately it has not been studied properly from various aspects. There are many peculiarities which must be investigated in depth. These are aspects concerning social relations in tenth-century Bulgaria. The text presents details on everyday life in the 10th century. Economic activities are mentioned, usually in considerable details. Instances of market life are described, and the modern day reader can easily recognize them. At the same time a careful investigation reveals unexpected information regarding legal knowledge and its application to the lower levels of society.
