Supporting long-term investments with the use of investment funds at the EU level

Summary/Abstract: The main objective of the paper is to present long-term financing using investment funds and attempt to evaluate a new concept of European Long-Term Investment Funds (ELTIF) in the context of the previously offered investment funds. The ELTIFs concept combines the long-term investment horizon, investment opportunities for professional and individual investors, investor protection and cross-border nature of the investment. So far, harmonisation of the investment fund market at the EU level has related to UCITS funds and Alternative Investment Fund Managers. The harmonisation of a selected group of alternative investment funds is the next step in creating a single financial market, promoting transparent and cross-border solutions on the international financial market and playing a part in building investors confidence in the financial market.
