Parenting behaviour of stepmother: (normative and realistic aspect of the role)

Summary/Abstract: Two important issues are contemplated in this article. Firstof all, it is determined what parenting behaviours have been attributedto a stepmother by people who replace a mother of a childand do not have parental rights. Then the frequency of selectedparenting behaviours which are manifested by those people is presented.The results of the research prove that the respondents haveimposed various duties on a stepmother, in particular the care ofa stepchild. Only some of them were of the opinion that a child shouldbe loved, socialized, treated with sympathy and support. Therespondents related the role of a stepmother with the expectationthat a surrogate mother will treat a stepchild the same as its realmother. At the same time, they admitted that they did not strictlyadhere to those recommendations. The departures mainly weremarked in relation to the socialization function performed by them.
