Summary/Abstract: This article will present chosen aspects of already existing inmate education facilities and their functioning in Poland. Merits of such facilities for rehabilitation have been described and statistical data illustrating the situation of prison education in years 2003/04‒2016/17 has been provided. This data includes, among other things, the number of schools and education facilities and the number of students and teachers. An essential part of this article has been dedicated to analyzing the barriers found in rehabilitation when teaching, barriers such as inadequately developed motivations for learning in a inmate education facility, an insufficient education offer for the students, scarce equipment of the aforementioned schools and low attendance rate.The analysis has been based upon the reports concerning the didactic and rehabilitation results of inmate education facilities, which are published periodically by thePolish Penitentiary Bureau and Central Board of Prison Service.
