Internet discussion board as a source of social support for parents in a situation of lethal fetal abnormality

Summary/Abstract: This article addresses the phenomenon of the assistance provided by a discussion group, which gathers relatives of children with Edwards Syndrome. The analysis of nearly 2000 statements obtained from the subjects under examination illustrates that they are an invaluable source of emotional support for each other, which is informative, evaluative and contributes to making friends anddeveloping communication beyond the forum. However, the most important thing is that those who keep in touch support each other emotionally. It can be seen in many ways, such as giving these parents hope for a better future and providing them with positive examples of successful dealing with the trauma.
