Summary/Abstract: Currently, a necessity to engage universities in lifelong learning is widely discussed. Strategy Europe 2020 emphasises the significance of actions designated to support social inclusion by, among others, motivating the Europeans to learn their entire life. Comparative research on participation in lifelong learning among the Europeans revealed that the situation in Poland is not favourable. It may change if, among other things, the universities engage in promotion of the concept of lifelong learning. Universities’ involvement in continuing education offers an opportunity to affect a new target group which is of great importance when a decline in the birth rate may be observed. The article presents a summary of primary research (quantitative and qualitative) on how universities’ involvement in lifelong learning is perceived. The research was led by Wrocław University of Economics in 2013.
