Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article was to answer the question of how large the differences were between the fraction of self-employed women and men in Poland and whether those differences increased or decreased over the years. The study was based on quarterly data, covering ten consecutive years. The analysis was made separately for eight groups, defined on the basis of age. For the purpose of verifying the statistical hypotheses, a significance test was used to examine the difference between factions. It has been shown that up to the age of 64, gender has a considerable impact on the fact that a person decides to run his or her own business. What is particularly important, over the past ten years, the percentage of self-employed women has not approached the percentage of self-employed men in any age group.
