The relationship between level of education and duration of job seeking regarding the unemployed in Poland

Summary/Abstract: Educated society means a number of benefits both for the state and for its citizens. Better educatedpeople are in a much more comfortable situation on the labor market – it is easier for them tofind a new job, they derive more satisfaction from their work and receive higher salaries.The changes that occurred in the structure of unemployed in Poland during the time period2007–2014 have been assessed in this article. Parts of the registered belonging to the followinggroups: 1) people with tertiary education, 2) post-secondary and vocational secondary, 3) generalsecondary, 4) basic vocational, 5) lower secondary and lower, were determined. The obtained resultswere compared with information on the unemployment rates in these groups. Additionally for eachof the five specified groups the percentages of persons seeking jobs during: I) up to 3 months, II)over 3 months, but not longer than 6 months, III) over 6 months, but not longer than 12 months,IV) over 12 months, but not longer than 24 months, V) more than 24 months, were computed. Inthe next step the parametric test of significance was used to assess the scale of differences betweenidentified fractions of the unemployed. The calculations were performed separately for eight consecutiveyears.Within the research carried out in this paper it was shown that in Poland persons with a universitydegree are able to find a new job the most quickly. The unemployed with general secondary educationhave to seek jobs longer, next are those with post-secondary and vocational secondary, thenbasic vocational and the longest – the unemployed with lower secondary, primary and incompleteprimary education. This regularity concerned all the years examined and was not due to chance.
