Summary/Abstract: St. Athanasius of Alexandria made an important contribution to theunderstanding of man’s work - through his free will - and the divine grace inorder to acquire salvation. As such, this study will highlight how St.Athanasius presents God's foreknowledge inconsistent with the idea ofpredestination, context in which freedom will be regarded as mediator of apermanent movement of the human person. At the same time, I wish tohighlight in depth the thought of St. Athanasius the Great on synergy, and toemphasize its final consequence: deification (Athanasian theosis), alsoanchoring in the writings of contemporary theologians.
