Summary/Abstract: Twentieth century was marked by lots of changes in economic, social and political development and among most relevant athievements is considered formation of states and their identity. Ethnology, having as study object this particular social structure, which was defined as people, played the relevant role in constructing of these identities. In present days, in 21st century in the center of contemporary ethnology we pronouncedly again find the issue of cultural, ethnic and national as well as regional identities in inequable and recently created realities as a result of the cultural globalization process flow. Globalization process as an expansion of West European cultural values into other worldwide cultures and local cultural responses toward it, are also prevailing topics and approaches in ethnology. This paper is focused in some theoretical approaches, such as essentialist and discursive, regarding these notions and their reflection in Albanian culture and identity.
