Summary/Abstract: Leopold Levy, a French painter who was invited to our county in the framework of the academic Reforms, worked as the head of painting department of the art academy between 1937 and 1949. Forty paintings of Leopold Levy, who assumed an important duty in a certain the period of Turkish art and art teaching, whose visual works are scarcely seen in the national literature, belonging to ÜnalCeyda Göğüş collection painted between 1920 and 1966, were exhibited in the TUYAP 2014 24th international art fair artist. This paper is related to the general evaluation of the paintings in the exhibition. Levy, who worked for the establishment of the Arts and Sculpture museum upon the request of Atatürk played an important role in the acquisition of the art pieces of Bonnard, Derain, Marquet, Segonzea, Braque, Matisse and Dufy. He established the mosaics work shop in the academy and contributed to the enrichment of the art library and published so many Articles in various journal and news-papers, submitted Presentations in various conferences and opened individual exhibitions made a great Contribution for the development of the medium of art in Turkey and played an important role in the training of so many artists in Turkish painting. Levy, who attached an utmost Importance upon individually tried constantly to promote the personality of the students. Levy, who never denied the western style understanding of art had an important role in the germination of a new art concept in Anatolia, assumed an important duty in the training of a new generation of artists who had an important role in the development of Contemporary Turkish Painting (the news). Levy, who lived in Paris after he left the country remained as a friend of the Turkish people and supported the Turkish artists who came to Paris till the end of feeling life.
