Summary/Abstract: The figure, the image of which has been broken into pieces and then totally removed from the canvas, appeared itself in front of audience. Having visualized the violence in her works for centuries, the artist has performed various demonstrations by committing the violence in her own body since 1960's. Her purpose was to touch the isolated world of the audience and also to wake and shake them up and to remove their lack of interest. Performance artists believing in the fact that Katharsis could be enabled by forcing the physical and mental borders and internalizing the violence performed a great number demonstrations of that kind. Bloody images partially based on illusion that artists produced with colors and various materials on their own bodies shifted to real bloody demonstrations that artists performed by animal slaughters, injuring themselves or in other ways after a while. This study attempted to shed some light on demonstrations performed on the basis of violence in performance art along with the purpose of artist and samples from the art history.
