Summary/Abstract: On June 22, 2009, Deimantas Karvelis defended PhD thesis (history) “The Society of Radvilos Birżai Principality in 1589 – 1655” at Vytautas Magnus University, Faculty of Humanitarian Sciences. The academic supervisor of the thesis – assoc. prof. habil. dr. Ingė Lukšaitė. The defence committee consisted of prof. dr. Zigmantas Kiaupa, Chairman of the committee, and the following members: prof. habil. dr. Bronislovas Genzelis, dr. Aistė Pališytė-Lugovojienė, assoc. prof. dr.Rimvydas Petrauskas. The official opponent were prof. dr. Aivas Ragauskas and assoc. prof. dr. Vaida Kamuntavičienė. The research was conducted on the basis of exceptionally numerous documents from Lithuanian, Warsaw and Minsk archives as well as copious sources. All this allowed the author to create a conspicuous and impressive picture of the local community and its communication. Therefore, the defence committee unanimously awarded Deimantas Karvelis PhD degree.
