Summary/Abstract: The "golden" business opportunities of the. Internet can seem limitless: the ability to reach new customers, build new businesses, achieve efficiencies, and· capitalize on the medium's global reach and immediacy But such opportunities often come at a cost. Because businesses operating on the Internet frequently are in uncharted legal territory, you may find yourself working in a vacuum, with no legal precedent, other than your own business ethics, to guide you. Or, you may find yourself subjected to a patchwork of conflicting laws and regulations from every comer of the globe that the Internet can reach. One way to look at the Internet is as a specialty practice within a business enterprise. The management of an Internet initiative requires skills in a number of disciplines and an understanding of the capabilities and assets of the medium. One of the great advantages of the Internet as a communications medium is the ease with which you can link your Web site to the Web sites of others. Links can increase the usefulness of a site and provide access to additional content at no extra cost. And sometimes Web site operators will agree to exchange links to each other's sites as a way of building traffic. Imagination Is the Only Limit. The Internet is changing these traditional delivery channels by providing a whole new canvas upon which to ply color and creative form. And with this new palette, marketing artists are discovering that the range of results that can be achieved is limited only by the marketer's ability to create and innovate.
