The Riddle in the History of American Sociology

Summary/Abstract: This study presents the history of American sociology as an intellectual challenge tackling several critical issues: is history of sociology possible at all; is there a specifically American sociology, etc. Revealing the normalcy of the apparent lack of already written history of American sociology the author asserts that such a history can be construed. The importance of getting acquainted with it would derive from the fact that the latter would provide some solid grounds for overcoming the socialization crisis in contemporary American sociology offering a substitute for the missing undisputable theoretical core of the discipline and a common ethos of the professional community.
