Summary/Abstract: In the last years, the public debate on lack of academic integrity became more intense, particularly in relation with the “plagiarism scandal” involving key personalities of Romanian cultural and political life. In this study we highlighted the need to clarify the differences between various definitions of the plagiarism, and self-plagiarism, as well as we need to know the most used forms of plagiarism. We also focused on the increased attention that should be paid to the knowledge of good practice in scientific research and academic activity, with emphasis on finding solutions to avoid committing violations of academic norms, rather than promoting reactive measures based on identification and proof of cases of plagiarism and the enforcement of sanctions.
