Summary/Abstract: Among over one thousand of Church Slavonic manuscripts which are preserved in Polish library and museum collections, codices from the 15th–17th century are dominant. They are related to the Orthodox Church tradition of the former Polish-Lithuanian state. The analysis of source material indicates a strong relation between the handwritten tradition of the former lands of the Republic of Poland with southern Slavdom and Mount Athos, primarily by the agency of Moldova, but in a certain degree also Wallachia. Texts devoted to the Holy Brothers – Constantine-Cyril and Methodius – reached the areas of Poland mainly through Ruthenian lands, subject to the former Kiev Metropolia. The cult of Sts. Cyril and Methodius is attested in several manuscripts. The description from Lublin MSD (Metropolitan Seminary) 538 is particularly noteworthy; it contains a copy of the "Officium in Honour of Constantine-Cyril." Several other manuscripts – mainly chasoslovs (horologions) and typika – contain troparia and kontakia devoted to St. Cyril, whereas others feature only kontakia. Manuscripts in which St. Cyril is referred to without liturgical texts are relatively rare. Polish collections of manuscripts also feature three copies of short lives of Sts. Cyril and Methodius and one fragment of a long life of St. Constantine-Cyril (chapters 16–18). The manuscript BN Akc. 2743 is particularly noteworthy, as it contains a lot of old South Slavic texts, like the interesting narration about Constantine-Cyril inserted in a copy of the Alphabet Prayer. It is also worth adding that liturgical Orthodox Church manuscripts (in particular prologues and menaia) constituted the main source of information about the Brothers for the Roman-rite Catholic/ Uniate/ Orthodox polemical literature from the period of the Union of Brest (16th–17th century).
