Summary/Abstract: In this article, we try to show that using one word instead of another (what we call “one word for another” – in French “un mot pour un autre”, does not mean using the correct word, even if the two words are synonyms. A word for another can mean mutual understanding in a play like that of Jean Tardieu, « Un mot pour un autre », or in a teacher-student or student-student conversation, when the teacher does not want to correct students’ mistakes in order not to interrupt the conversational process. In the assessment process, one word for another must be excluded and the correct word must be used. We provide different examples of gapped texts in which one can notice that the completion is correct only if one word is used. We are subsequently against the gapped texts which allow the possibility of completion with two or more words.
