Summary/Abstract: In this paper author analyses the status of concept of the civil society in the political initiatives of the intelligentia interested in politics during the 1980 - 1990. period. That period of Serbian history has been analysed in order to emphasis a great significance of the processes of the articulation of ideas and political project for period after 1990. The first democratization step was made by humanistic intelligentia. The means of their activity were different: petitions, public letters, "home university", committee for the defence of freedom. There was no of the attempt institutionalizing of the opposition party.
