Conservation and Restoration of an Old Romanian book: Strastnic (Passional), Blaj, 1753

Summary/Abstract: The technological process of restoring old books comprises more phases. Identification of deterioration that both the book block and binding elements underwent is an important stage for establishing the diagnosis and treatment that follows to be applied. The restoration was carried out with unstitching of the volume: dry cleaning, washing out the leaves, fissure consolidation, completion of the gaps with Japanese voile, restoration of leather coverings, making a protective case.
