The Methodology of Restoring Six Volumes from the Old Book Collection of Ramet Monastery

Summary/Abstract: Two trends exist as restoration is concerned: one focuses on the complete restoration of volumes, by unstitching the binding, and the other one regards small interventions, without unstitching. Each old book is a case in itself, with specific issues. That is why, only after analysis of each element, correlated with the state of preservation, can we state which of the two methods we apply within the restoration. In this case, we would choose both methods, due to the quite advanced degradation of binding elements, as well as degradations of leaves triggered by the sewing thread in three volumes; in good condition binding that does not necessitate the unstitching of the other three volumes.
