PUBLIC AREA AND URBAN EQUIPMENT: SAMPLE OF IZMIT PROVINCE YAHYAKAPTAN NEIGHBORHOOD

Summary/Abstract: Urban spaces are important in today's growing cities as a city's circulation, breathing, gathering and socializing areas. The functions undertaken by urban spaces in urban development vary according to the size, culture and period needs of the settlement. In the 18th century, with the discovery and use of steam powered machines, population mobility from the countryside to the city started. This situation caused the rural to weaken in terms of population and the city to become denser. These increases in the urban population have revealed the growth need of the city. Today, big cities, megacities and metropolises are used as new concepts that have entered the litrerature in order to express the settlements in the world. In big cities, the days of the individuals usually spend outside, and especially the working population has to meet many daily needs outside. Therefore, public space functions are changing and being updated. In this study, the usage areas and functions included in the zoning plan within the urban texture will be discussed.
