Summary/Abstract: Devoted to the World Health Day – 7 March 2009, the article is a presentation of the World Health Organization’s role and preoccupations, the main topics on its agenda for the last few years and the issues related to this year’s logo: “Save lives. Make hospitals safe in emergencies”. In this context, the author critically evaluates the domestic situation and refers to the healthcare policies and the necessary measures for hospitals to operate under critical circumstances, particularly in the case of disasters.
