Summary/Abstract: This paper highlights the problems of translating the wordplay in the musical Young Frankenstein into French. Even if the pun, mainly used for humorous purposes, is regarded as untranslatable, it is still subjected to intensive research. From a translating point of view, this study will show that different translation strategies will help Stéphane Laporte to provide appropriate equivalents to the various puns found in both the dialog and the lyrics. However, in many cases, he will have to give up on any comical aspects. He must actually find common ground between keeping the original wordplay and including it in a text that is addressed to another audience.
