Some Features of Subordinated Attributive Sentences Introduced by Colloquial Incommutable Relative Rronouns and Adverbs

Summary/Abstract: Subjects of this study are the incommutable relative pronouns and adverbs, which introduce subordinate attributive sentences, as in this function they are typical of the colloquial speech – forms as дето (дет), де, където (къдет), що and къде, which replace variable relative pronoun който (in all its forms). The existence of invariable relative pronouns or adverbs, in function of introduction of attributive subordinate clauses, is a special feature not only of Bulgarian dialects and speech, but also of other Balkan languages like Albanian (që), Greek (ðïõ / üôé) and Romanian (ce / de). The unchangeable forms are traditional for Bulgarian colloquial speech since the late Medieval Bulgarian era. The variable forms който, която, което, които are newer and have markedly literary nature. They are without support in the language. On the greater part of Bulgarian language area the incommutable forms are comprehended as a colloquial speech rather than a dialect, so they are frequently used not only in everyday communication, but also in the media.
