Summary/Abstract: The level and the course of economic and social development is determined by a number of various factors, such as the state of technological development or social awareness. The latter is the result of the economic knowledge of the younger generation, which is considered as a way of young people’s thinking and their referring to economic reality. What constitutes economic awareness is the understanding of economic processes, the system of values and economic aspirations, work and entrepreneurship, the attitude towards ownership, the attitude towards money and saving, consumption, determinants of success in life. While living in a particular reality, young people acquire knowledge about the surrounding economic processes. This is affected by both external factors (events and economic phenomena occurring in the country and in the world), as well as internal factors: the process of socialization in the family, observation of the immediate environment, making everyday economic decisions. All this influences the generation’s attitudes, values and knowledge that will build the economy in the future. These problems were the subject of multi-dimensional analysis and discussions at the conference “Work – Consumption – Entrepreneurship. The economic awareness of the young generation of the Visegrad Group”, which took place in 2015 in Katowice. This monograph is the result of that meeting. The papers dealt not only with the issues concerning the Visegrad Group, but also with the entirety of the issues related to the economy awareness of the young generation. The monograph has been divided into three parts: The economic awareness of the younger generation of the Visegrad Group;Work and entrepreneurship of the young generation; The position of consumption in the life of the young generation.

- Summary/Abstract:The aim of the considerations presented in this paper is the analysis of the leading conditions that make up the process of the formation of the economic knowledge and entrepreneurial attitudes of the contemporary Polish youth. The starting point in this analysis are references to the socio-economic application of neoliberal solutions and the neo-liberal discourse on the economy and society, which may affect educational activities. Subsequently, there are presented and characterized chosen solutions for economic education, that are adopted in the formal education system supported by business institutions, mainly by Polish National Bank. These deliberations have been complemented by analyses relating to media education in economics conducted both in terms of traditional business and networking.

- Summary/Abstract:The article focuses on the changes taking place in the relationship between thelabor market and widely understood academic education in the era of economic neoliberalism.Particular emphasis was placed on the presention of the issues related to the opportunities of career development and the quality of work of young people leaving the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW). Graduates are increasingly more likely to be exposed to precarious work (low-paid, temporary, below their qualifications). The paper is based on an analysis of data obtained from the academic office of the University of Life Sciences Careers Service, which monitors the career paths of the graduates. The authors, using the conceptual framework proposed by Guy Standing and based on the study, “The fate of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) graduates” are trying to look closer at the employment status of graduates.

- Summary/Abstract:Max Weber’s thesis was an inspiration for reflections presented in the following paper. German scholar suggested that there was a “spirit of capitalism”, deeply-rooted in the Protestant ethics, which promoted development of modern capitalism. However, we believe that the “spirit of capitalism” bases on more universal rules. We described the set of these rules as a normative capital. We decided to present in the paper a theoretical conception that expresses our point of view on the matter. These theoretical reflections were placed in a specific empirical context. What is the subject of our interest is the processes of the accumulation and use of normative capital in Poland and Ukraine. Both countries began to transform their economies at the same time, but the results of these economic changes are completely different at present. Since we agree with Weber that there is a relationship between attitudes and economic development, we decided to analyze the former one. We use the data from both European Value Study (2008) as well as International Social Survey Programme (2009). We focused our reflections especially on young people, because we assumed that their attitudes could be used as predictors of changes in the field of work.

- Summary/Abstract:The study investigates the subject of work attitudes of young people represented by Generation Y. The growing importance of this issue results from the fact that on the current labour market the encounters between representatives of different generations take place – from generation of traditionalists, through the Generation X and Y and representatives of the youngest generations called R. The contact between these generations in the workplace, due to representing different attitudes towards work, poses a problem in terms of staff management and is a challenge for HR units. Mutual understanding of the different perception of work as the life value seems to be also crucial for the effective performance of managerial functions. The aim of the study is to analyze the results of the research conducted by the author in terms of students’ attitudes towards work.

- Summary/Abstract:Knowledge is now the determinant of the development of both individuals, i.e. people, organizations and entire economies. Hence, at present great attention is given to the issues of education and training in the broad meaning, which are supposed to be continued throughout their lives, and thus not only increase the effectiveness of individual people but also help them cope and come to grips with the changing labor market. In particular, this problem relates to a group of university graduates who admittedly are equipped with the relative latest knowledge but did not have the experience of mobility in the labor market. In these processes, as well as on the social and professional adaptation stage, their attitudes towards work seem to be crucial. The purpose of this study is to determine how the acquisition of knowledge by students can change their attitude towards work.

- Summary/Abstract:The system changes undertaken in Poland, and introduced by the pension reform(1999), violated the fundamental values of the pension system, such as the system stability, its predictability, protection against the risk of poverty in old age, and even the certainty of receiving your benefit. The changes affected in particular the young generation of the Poles who, being threatened with high and persistent unemployment and insecure employment, have lost the ability to raise capital for the old age pension for a large part of their career. This betrayed the young people’s trust in the state, its institutions, structures and rules. More and more often young people do not see any sense in the existence of the public pension system. The loss of trust in the country makes it difficult to build social capital for strengthening social bonds and the formation of citizenship, whereas it is conducive to making decisions about economic emigration.

- Summary/Abstract:The main purpose of the article is to reconstruct scientific meaning of the term ofcrisis. The text begins with a short reference to the latest financial breakdown of 2008. Because of the collapse of Lehman Brothers Bank, since October 2008 the term crisis has been widely used in public and academic discourse. In recent years, research into economical collapse has become very popular. The addressed issue is a part of many scientific books and scholar analysis. Simultaneously, the term of crisis is often used in everyday life – as a general idea of crash and devastation. Despite its popularity, the phrase ‘crisis’ is indefinite. Therefore providing an academic definition of this phenomenon presents the major difficulty. To solve this problem, several accredited theoretical points of view on crisis may be synthesized.

- Summary/Abstract:The principal aim of the herein paper is to describe selected consumer competencesand the degree of their occurrence among young consumers. The achievement of the assumed goal was possible thanks to the application of the method of critical analysis of the national and international literary sources relating to consumer competences and the methods of quantitative analysis. - Author(s):Marcin Gacek
- Language:Polish

- Page Range:325-336
- No. of Pages:12
- Summary/Abstract:The main focus of the analysis carried out in this article is the relationship between a voter and a consumer as a political actor, which is only one of many elements of the process of political communication. The application of marketing techniques while recruiting political decision makers, like all techniques of persuasion, is thought to be of the interest of the sociology of politics in general, and the sociology of political behavior in particular. The issue of voter as a consumer of political communication should primarily be considered as the influence of persuasion, or unfortunately sometimes even more or less sophisticated manipulation, on the political behaviour of citizens. While studying political phenomena, sociology must not be restricted to the analysis of social structures, the organization of political parties and the professionalization of politics, but shall also make a direct reference to a real social behaviour. Electoral behaviours are subject to sociological, psychological and economical research.

- No. of Pages:21
- Summary/Abstract:The development of digital technology and new forms of not hierarchical, networked communication at the turn of the 20th century induced sociologists and cultural theorists to announcing the declining of social space, both in terms of the geographical and axiological dimensions, due to the creation of new, independent social movements. The global free culture movement, involving both the creation of free software and free sharing of knowledge and information, has become one of these global movements. The author of the publication presents the processes of institutionalization occurring in the projects of the Wikimedia Foundation, co-organized in the framework of the free culture movement. These processes on the one hand lead to the relative closing up of the members of groups belonging to regional cultures, especially those who speak the same language, on the other hand to encouraging interregional cooperation. Common enterprises undertaken by partners from East-Central Europe are not only contribution to the free culture movement, but may also point to emphasizing the common identity of prosumers of post-socialist societies.
