Summary/Abstract: Human resource, i.e. educators, teachers and teachers in educational institutions are actually a key factor in the success of any educational system. The competences of teachers have been the focus of interest of a large number of pedagogues in recent years. The reason for its topicality, among other things, is the complexity of defining the term itself, but also the increasing understanding of competences as the operationalization of learning outcomes. The professional development of teachers based on lifelong learning (competencies, personality traits, motivation, interests, knowledge innovation) contributes to the creation of the professional identity of these professions. The aim of this paper is to present the terminological presentation of the concept, role and importance of competences and point out some of the key competences of these professions in order to point out the importance of professional development and further permanent work of teachers, all with the aim of methodical profiling and increasing efficiency in the teaching process.
