Summary/Abstract: Currently, renewable energies have become an important object by whichconventional energy sources, based on fossil fuels, by this type of energy sources thatreduce considerably and in some cases eliminate the impact on the environment. In thissense, the present review article deepened the potential of microalgae, as unicellularliving organisms that reproduce easily under specifi c conditions and produce a largeamount of biomass. Studies carried out in the last decades, sustaining that biomassbecomes an important source for the production of energy from the combustion of it.In addition, the article addresses the characteristics of microalgae for the treatment ofwastewater and how this wastewater becomes a benefi cial medium for the cultivationof these organisms for the purpose of producing biomass.
