Byzantine and western cultural influences into Romanian Countries in XIVth-XVth centuries. Almost inexplicably, during the time of economic, military and political crisis, which spread a lot in the last two centuries of the Byzantine Empire, at cultural level, a flourishing age has been registered before the tragic end. This was possible due to the significant and multicultural Byzantine movement that was to bring into play the dawns of Humanism and Renaissance from the western world.

The Gospel according to St. Mark begins not with an infancy narrative like Matthew’s and Mark’s, but about thirty years after the Lord’s birth with the story of the final Old Testament prophet. Isaiah prophesied that God’s messenger would appear first and prepare the way for the Messiah. That messenger was John the Baptist. The Baptist had two messages. He preached repentance and baptism for the forgiveness of sins. John also preached about the One who was coming after him, “the thong of whose sandal” he said he was unworthy to untie. This One, he preached, would bring a different baptism. It would be a baptism with the Holy Spirit, not merely an earthly baptism, but a heavenly one. In other words, he proclaimed the coming of the Messiah. John’s baptism in water for the forgiveness of sins was about the admission and correction of moral failings not just for individuals, but for society as a whole. All the Old Testament prophets addressed injustice and John was no different. They all spoke truth to power. They preached sermons of fire and brimstone against the powers that be. They spoke out against oppression of the poor, widows, orphans, and all forms of inequality. The judgment the prophets said was coming on Israel was because of the faithlessness of the people of God which was manifested in injustice, oppression and inequality in society. That is why many of the prophets were murdered. St. James echoes that message in the New Testament when he proclaims that true religion is the care of orphans and widows in their affliction. James was also a prophet in this social, moral sense.

We are in the reverential year of 2017, when our Church cherishes the church icon painters. On this occasion, when our eparchy is also at a time of celebration, in the following lines, I will try to set forth a complete presentation of the iconographic schedule of the wall church within the Săraca Monastery (13th century), a monument which is emblematic for our eparchy, from an iconographic and cultural perspective. The presentation herein shall be divided into two parts so as to be able to embed the full iconographic schedule.

Addressing mostly priests and Religion teachers, but also any believer, the entire publicistic series that we commence at this point desires, in a straightforward, plain and clear manner (without proposing thematic biblical theology approaches, but by means of a rigurous selection of minimally commented texts), to bring forth again The Truth of the Holy Sacraments before the readers, whoever they might be or – why not? – lead the readers before The Truth, That „is the same for yesterday, today and forever” (Jews 13, 8): The Lord and Our Saviour, Jesus Christ, present, alive and active in all undertakings of His Church.

The treasury of all practices effected in the Orthodox Church includes among others the consecration of the Holy Chrism by the members of the Holy Synod of one of the Autocephalous Orthodox Churches. This liturgical act occurs exclusively during Saint Basil’s Holy Liturgy, in the Maundy Thursday, with the frequency required by the immediate necessities manifested in that respective church. Beyond the multiple usage of the Chrism within the cult, It involves also a series of Mystical significations capable of transcending “the boundaries of materiality”.

By its features, the religious project entitled “Sharing Christ with the children”, aims at bringing the word of God closer to children, in a more attractive form, easier to understand and assimilate, which may open their hearts to a set of authentic values in a century-old world crowded by pseudo-values. Children aged 6 to 17, whom this national program addresses, are at a time when their personalities are shaping and they are at their most vulnerable before a world without God.

In the 2019 Reverential Year of the Romanian Village, within the Romanian Patriarchy, we also consider the part played by rural parishes with regard to the pastoral-missionary, cultural-educational and socialphilanthropic activity. The parish is the place where we are born for eternity, the place where we pervade the route between home and the Church, the place where we acquaint with the Holy Sacraments, the place where we expect the Rising from the Dead, bearing the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ as a sign of victory of the world. The parish, similar to this entire world, is a place of confession of the Gospel by clerics and believers, in all time and with all being, in strong faith and sacrificial love. The parish is a geographical and spiritual place where the priest carries out liturgical and pastoral-missionary activities entailing an authentically Christian religious experience.

The numbers of “our brothers across the Danube” is not known with accuracy. They do however believe that they are several millions, while the official statistics taken from their countries of inhabitance are quite restrictive, recording – in total – only several hundreds of thousands, which was also due to the interests of those states, as well as the de-nationalization process they are subjected to. It would be suitable for our Government to look closely into the matter of the Romanians surrounding Romania. During our time, within different international bodies and via different own associations, the Romanians south of the Danube are asking for their rights, militating – to the best possible extent – in favor of maintaining their identity.

The Holy Hierarch Nicholas, the archbishop of Myra, the miracle worker, was and remains in the consciousness of humanity as a hierarch fully involved in solving the serious problems of the society from the time of his pastoral care and fearless defender of the right faith. Saint Nicholas calls us all and everyone to be involved in the life of the city, to save the abandoned children, the homeless, dismembered and demoralized young people and girls trafficked in the country and abroad. With his prayers he helps us to live a Christian life and teaches us that, from the material and spiritual gifts received from the heavenly Father, we also offer to others who are sighing because of the shortcomings, the impossibilities and the difficulties of life.
