More...Keywords: Romania; World War One; image of the hero; official discourse
The present study discusses the perceptions on the hero during and after the First World War in official Romanian discourses (from Transylvania and from Romania), regarding the Romanian soldiers from Transylvania who were involved in the war, either fighting for their own country Austria-Hungary, either for their future country Romania. These are the years when the concept of heroism receives firm and precise connotations. Being a hero comprises a full set of civic and national values that animate the armed man. Generally speaking, war has brought a radical change of register regarding the identification and praise of heroes, regardless of the place where it caused casualties. With Word War I, hero conceptualization is complete. The Romanian space proposes a formula adapted to our own realities, marked by the evolution of war and by its final result, as the hero becomes the creator of “the union”, fulfilling the national dream. In this formula, it became difficult for the Transylvanian soldiers who fought for Austria-Hungary to be seen as heroes.

In this article we present the result of three years of research (2005, 2009 and 2010) on the Tease Mountain, located close to Borsec in the Harghita County, eastern Transylvania. Tease Mountain with a flattened top, favourable for alpine pasture, makes connection to Moldova by paths In the same time, it is a very good place for oversee the surroundings, therefor we believe it was used by Paleolithic communities to follow the wild animal herd for hunting. The area is well known even before the First World War, when several stones with signs and symbols related to Szcklcrs origin were discovered. Some stones have been moved from their initial places to the Gheorghieni Museum. Earlier Şl. Kovâcs (1914) and G. Bako(1962) made the analyses of these stones. We have investigated the mountain by ethno-archeological methods (folds, abodes, streams); with this occasion areas with opal as raw material, different artefacts related with Prehistory or later, as well as 43 stones with signs and symbols have been discovered. The stones have been put on the map with a GPS (fig. 1), starting from the sketch made by Şt. Kovâcs. We made different photos and drawings for the signs and symbols, or some correction for those already published. Many signs and symbols discovered on the stones located in the Tease Mountain present analogies with similar representations of Neolithic, Copper Age (displayed by Danubian Script especially on cult objects) or later ones. Some of signs and symbols have too analogies with the Paleolithic representations (A. Leroi-Gourhan) or they show astral constellations. Mountain is a sacred place in many civilizations. In our opinion the stones with signs and symbols discovered on the Tease Mountain might indicate the place of a prehistoric sanctuary.

The Architectural Environment in the Flemish Painting of the 15th Century. The space described by the Flemish painters in the 15th century gathers visual documents of the architectural environment of the time. The visual details are collated on biblical illustrations, in a specific representation of the historical and geographical data. The most interesting characteristic of the visual representations in the artistic creations of the epoch is the interaction of the sacred and profane spaces. This characteristic is analysed in the works of three outstanding creators: Master of Flemalle, Jan van Eyck and Rogier van der Weyden.

Roman archeology in Pojejena has brought with it the evolution of researches always new information about the military units that were stationed here, on the Danube. An indicator of this problem are the stamped bricks that were used to lift the buildings inside the fort and which are supposed to have been made locally by the garrison. The last archaeological excavations and noninvasive field researches carried out in the area of the praetoria gate, the only untouched previous excavations, gave us the chance for such discoveries, some of them extremely important because they completely change our perspective on the composition of the garrison. Also a good part of the pieces due to the context could be dated and none of the discoveries exceeds the moment of use in the middle of the third century.

In 2019, the first explorations to determine the magnetic anomalies were conducted. The research targeted two dwellings, named L3 and L4. The L4 was partially researched, resulting several rooms and interior amenities (altar, bed attached to the corridor separating two rooms) and annexes. The structures of walls and floors of L4 were investigated, as well as the part of the pits related to the structure of resistance of the house. Between the two dwellings, debris from another house – L10 – was found. At the same time, the ceramic material and the faunal remains were statistically analyzed. Hunedoara County is the keeper of an inexhaustible treasure of ecclesiastical architectural, pictorial and sculptural art, old and new alike. Immortal creations of the ancient folk craftsmen (known by name or lost forever under the anonymity of history) or of modern architects, these churches, built, from case to case, of stone, brick or wood, demonstrate, by their weight and variety, not only the steadfastness, but also the richness of expression of the Christian faith in these lands. The present study aims to present, in the form of a repertoire, all the orthodox places of worship in the county, both those functional from a liturgical point of view, many inscribed on the list of Romanian historical monuments, as well as those whose traces or vestiges contemporaneity can still perceive and capitalize on.

We believe that too little has been written about the activity of Romanian Orthodox priests in interwar Hungary. Those who stood out due to their activities were noted by researchers and valuable studies were compiled honouring them. Few studies, it is true. On the other hand, almost nothing was written about another series of priests. Therefore, in this article we will try to present to the reader different figures that in their ensemble have managed to keep alive a Church faced with manifest forms of denationalisation, marginalisation, exclusion.
