This text captures some aspects of the activity of Metropolitan Nicolae Colan in Cluj, as Bishop, focusing on his accomplishments in church administration, as well as in the economic, cultural and missionary-social fi elds. The article refers to the activity of Metropolitan Nicolae Colan in Cluj during four important time periods: 1936-1940 (a reach and peaceful time), 1940-1944 (the Hortyst occupation—the worst time in the history of this diocese), 1944-1947 (a time of intense activity to redress the situation of the diocese in Cluj), and 1947-1957 (harsh times, yet, fl ourishing, coinciding with the reinstatement of the Communist regime in Romania). Bishop Nicolae Colan is one of the most important fi gures of the Romanian Christianity, due to his accomplishments; he made communication possible between religions and ethnic groups, for the use of the Church and of our Nation—both subjects of the Bishop’s sacrifi ce and devotion
More...The material is examined of three indices of book forbidden by the Church; these boooks were circulating in the Romanian Principalities in the 17th century: (1) Indicele din Cazania de la Voievozi (Indice of the Homilies from Voievozi), copied at the beginning of the 17th century in the Serbian Belgrad bz the priest Vassily from Moldova; (2) Indicele din Nomocanonul slavon (Indice of the Slavic Laws) found at the Bistritza Monastery in 1651 and (3) Indicele din Kirillovka Kniga (Index of Czril’s Book), translated at Târgovişte bz Staicu Grămăticul between 1667-1669. Among the forbidden books included in these indices (all the books originate in Russia) only a few circulated in the Romanian space; two of these books (as related to the index in the Book of Homilies and 13 as related to the two indices in Wallacha). The presence of these indices could not put a stop to the activity of translating and copying the apocryph religions books, attested especially in Transylvania. We have no information as regards the fact that the Orthodox Church in the Romanian Principalites did impose any censorship on the religious apocryphs and on the fortelling books.

The communist system established a harsh censorship concerning mass-media. There were specialized structures which were supervising the written and spoken press and are taking care not to appear any information unsuitable with the Communist Party wish. Literature, art, theatre was heaving “enjoyed” the same treatment. Each literary work had to pass over the rigors of the feared “Reading Committee” which didn’t hesitate to make recommendation which practically concealed each artistically and creative initiative of the authors. It also existed a “Foreign Press Service” which was examining the books of the foreign authors making recommendation on their content. It must also be mentioned that some newspapers, and here we are talking about “Scânteia” the Communist Party paper, were acting as guarding dogs of press not hesitating to criticize “the mistakes” published in other publications. A situation like this has been created by the publication in “Scînteia” of an article talking about “Flacăra” magazine, fact which determined the immediate organization of a large meeting among the members of the editorial office for materializing the self-critic. At the meeting had been participating the editorial-staff from “Flacăra” and a part of the staff from “Rampa”: N. Mărgeanu, Dan Deşliu, I. Grinevici, Novicov, Nina Cassian, Saşa Pană, Janot Popper, Al. Assan, Bercovici, Victor Tulbure, Corin Grosu, Marian, Păscăluţă, Coliu. From outside the editorial staff participated: Cicerone Teodorescu, Ion Călugăru and Corin Grosu. The agenda order of the day of this meeting was to analyse the mistakes and their causes produced at „Flacăra” and pointed out in the article: “More principled ness in treating arts and literature problems” from “Scînteia”, the 15th of July 1948. The speakers recognized their own personal mistakes but also they tried to find the mistakes of their mates from „Flacăra”. From the identified mistakes we mention: - the wrong way in which they work at Art Committee - most of the mistakes from „Flacăra” are due to the fact that the magayine has proved to be out of line towards the cultural problems wich should have preocupied it, due to the insufficient orientation of the editorial staff, due to the insufficient ideological paper-works - the lock og courage towards the leadership mistake encountered at „Flacăra” - the low ideological training of the editors - the lack of criticism and self criticism in the editorial staff meetings - the inferiority complex which appears to due to the spirit of command which reigned until now - the fear of the Communist Party heads - the inexistence of a sindically committee and the absence of the precise obligations coming from sindically and Communist Party in the editorial office - the absence of the Communist Party from the souls of the editors - “Flacăra” has sinned by the lack of an emotional contact with its readers.

In the context of the activities specific to the “Sibiu European Gastronomic Region in the year of 2019” project, the sustainable rural development of the five micro regions (Mărginimea Sibiului, Olt Country, Hârtibaciului Valley, Târnavelor Valley and Secaşelor Land), aims to bring a new concept of integrated and systemic approach to the role of promoting traditional activities in which gastronomy plays an important role.Gastronomic touristic products incorporate values of environment, landscape, parts of local culture, traditions, local cuisine, traditional costumes, local food and rituals, associated with gastronomic experience – the way the edibles are served and presented, as well as ingredients, preparation methods. Identifying the culinary destination is one of the challenges of creating touristic products, in which an important role goes to guesthouses. The aim of the paper is to analyze the preferences of the tourists for practicing gastronomic tourism and the involvement of the rural tourism operators in the project, taking into account the types of preferred events. In this regard, it has been elaborated a questionnaire for the tourists accommodated in the rural and agro-touristic guesthouses from two micro regions representative of the Sibiu County, respectively Hârtibaciului Valley and Mărginimea Sibiului. Also, there have been held discussions with the guesthouse’s administrators, who are actively implicated in the diversification of the mass tourist services supply by designing new tourist products, which incorporate traditional reinterpreted recipes, accompanied by a story of the place and source of raw material.

The year 1918 was a year full of historical events. National self-determination will conquer the entire Russian space, including Bessarabia and Ukraine. At the beginning of 1918, Romanian officers on mission in Odessa witnessed the events in the city: the infiltration of the Bolshevik elements and the conquest of power by them. In the memo presented to the Romanian General Headquarters, aviation lieutenant Vasile Alexăndreanu, the main protagonist, narrates how the revolutionary elements, especially Romanian deserters, contributed to the spread of terror in the city, the arrest and humiliation of the Romanian citizens in Odessa, especially lawmakers and officers.

Through this study we tried to highlight the philanthropic activity carried out by Archbishop Teofil Herineanu in the two dioceses: the Diocese of Roman and Huşi (1949-1957) and the Archdiocese of Vad, Feleac and Cluj (1957-1992), in a very difficult time for the Romanian Orthodox Church, due to the establishment of the communist regime in the country. Despite the hardships of that period, both in Roman and in Cluj, Archbishop Teofil managed to keep close to his faithful, distinguishing himself through numerous acts of philanthropy for the poor, the sick and the helpless, for the theological students, for the families of the priests incarcerated in communist prisons and for the widows and orphans who asked him for material support and help. He helped everyone with money from the Diocese’s funds or from his own salary. In this way, the Transylvanian Hierarch remained in the consciousness of the Church as one of the greatest philanthropists, a man of God, who dedicated his entire existence to helping others. His philanthropic efforts are highlighted in this study based on official documents from the two dioceses, which he pastored with skill and total devotion, until his passing into eternity.

This study focuses on middle schoolers who undergo a period of transformation from preteen to teenager years. The situation concerning this category is alarming worldwide because these children are prone to obesity. Our research aimed to study the results of middle schoolers in the trial of resistance running and determine whether these results suffered modifications because of the BMI. The study features the results for 800m resistance running for girls, 1000m for boys, and the differentiation indicator, i.e., the BMI. The research group comprised 94 seventh graders (40 boys and 54 girls) from Iași County (Romania). Upon interpreting the BMI values, we found modified scores in the case of 39% of the girls and 45% of the boys. Most students obtained good results (the grade average was 7-8), and none of them dropped out of the test. According to the marking scheme, the statistical results have proven that the girls obtained values between 4.39´ and 4.48´, while the boys scored between 4.31´ and 4.45´. Consequently, our findings show that the BMI may partially alter the results of the resistance running trials; hence, greater attention should be paid to this category of students by limiting harmful habits and replacing them with physical activities.
