This investigation of two remarkable features of the noun phrase – its ability to operate as an independent clause at sentence level and its complex and unorthodox internal structure – brings to light two opposing tendencies: on the one hand, the complexity of the noun phrase’s inner structure and, on the other hand, its simplicity of structure across sentence boundaries. Nominalization implies both morphological and syntactic processes; in generative grammar it implies the operation of transforming the sentence into a noun phrase.

Lean as an industrial paradigm has proved to be of significant benefit in the manufacturing industry. This paper aims to report on the introduction of takt-time to an industrial plant with the emphasis on the improved adaptability of manufacturing process to the market situation. The study finds that the operations which were not optimised, like packaging operation, represented a bottleneck and were not harmonised with the takt time dictated by customers. Unbalanced manufacturing cell caused delays in supplying the products to customers, increased their dissatisfaction, inventories in the manufacturing process and number of low quality products. A designed takt time model based on the shop-floor approach is one promising alternative to solving such problems.

A controversial subject at the present time is the issue of harmonization of accounting both at European level and globally. Although much has been made in bringing the accounting at a uniform level, this request it has not reached yet. A comparative study between the accounting treatment of fixed assets amounted to Romanian national regulations and in accordance with international rules, will bring out the best in show the similarities and differences between the regulations. Contemporary socio-economic processes increase the significance of domains which rely heavily on intensive knowledge utilization. It concerns, above all, the II and III sector of the economy. The purpose of this study was to examine the shaping of spatial diversity of economic entities in the industry sector measured by technology levels and the service sector assessed by intensity of research and development at the local level. The analysis also concerned factors determining the creation of these diversities as well as relationships between the occurrence of economic entities in production activity and the service sector. The survey was conducted at the level of NTS 4 units (counties) in the Dolnośląskie Voivodeship in 1998 and 2004. The analysis revealed an increase in the participation of entities belonging to the high tech service sector and high tech industry sector at the local level of the Dolnośląskie Voivodeship. This participation was accompanied by a tendency of their spatial structures to become alike. It indicates that general conditions of emergence of companies characterized by the highest level of research and development intensity within the II and III sector of the economy are becoming alike. The development of high tech industry companies is connected with the general development of services. This interrelation increases together with intensity of research and development within sector III (high tech services and knowledge-based services). It also increases with time. There exists a high, positive correlation between the value of the entrepreneurship index in the II and III sector and the general level of entrepreneurship. The crucial factor determining the formation of new economic entities in the group of high tech industry companies and high tech services is the overall rise of entrepreneurship index

My wife, Susan, and I flew into Budapest from Moscow in the summer of 1992. It was our first visit to one of the former “satellites” of the USSR, although by 1992 we had spent a good deal of time in the Soviet Union – and then Russia. My work on a joint university project in Moscow had been difficult because of the dramatic changes taking place almost daily in the early 1990s, and we were looking forward to a few days of relaxed tourism in a country that was new to us. I also was intrigued by the plans for the new Central European University and was looking forward to meeting colleagues who would tell me more about the new university and their aspirations.

Affectivity is an important dimension in humans’ social and individual lives. It is either a stimulating or hindering aspect of language learning. This article aims to draw attention to material culture as a powerful, but mostly neglected source of data on the use and acquisition of languages, and demonstrates the close and intricate links between affectivity and material culture. It is hoped that revealing these interrelationships will assist in understanding and managing language diversity. It will allow practitioners and teachers to carry out social and private encounters, events and language teaching with more care, understanding and expertise. Researchers will be encouraged to join the investigation of yet one more important facet of multilingualism – material culture.

The main goal of this paper is to check whether Prototype Theory can be applied to the analysis of the English verbs of motion. More precisely, the paper attempts to apply various elements of S.G. Pulman’s (1983) model of prototype effect testing to a semantic analysis of the English motion verbs (as defined and selected in Miller 1972 and Levin 1993). The methods of analysis include prototypicality rating tests previously used by psychologists (Rosch 1975a,b, Rosch and Lloyd 1978, inter alia), frequency tests and corpus data analysis. The results show that a semantic analysis of verbs based on Prototype Theory is possible, though it has certain constraints. On the whole, there is a steady semantic pattern related to the obtained category structure of motion verbs: the more generic verbs seem to be closer to the centre and, as we move towards the periphery, the verbs tend to be more specific.

If in 1960, at the end of the Second Five-Year Plan Dobrudja as region was to be found on a map that showed the average level of national industrial development, in 1965, after the consolidation of economic policy designated by the Romanian Communist Party, Dobrudja was among the areas that had modern industry, and that was because the implementation of the technological process and the quality of products supplied. The administrative division made in 1968 created a more favorable area by accelerating the social and economic development. An important role in the determining cities and towns was the perspective regarding the development of the industrial sides and the expansion of the areas affected for the new accommodations or for other facilities concerning urban interests. We believe that the political line of the Romanian Communist Party regarding increasing the ’’socialist” police was based on industrialization as a unique and certain mean of developing the national economy, including the Dobrudja.

Commercial family businesses are part of an open system that establish an ongoing relationship between the structure of the organization, objectives, people, environment and resources, adapting to changing needs that require to be in the competitive environment. The paper shows results of the study that seeks to identify human factors that affect the productivity of family and trading in Sinaloa’s companies to propose a model that reflects relationships between these factors and productivity. Data collection was carried out under the quantitative approach to the implementation of 209 surveys, following the structural equation model. The results show that in a model of human factors that affect productivity, behavior involves psychological and psychosocial processes that influence the performance of individuals and groups, increasing or decreasing the productivity of individual, group and own organization considering three levels of analysis that reflect the continuous interaction and mutual influence that exists between each dimension. Each level represents the impact that individuals exercise in productivity is on the individual, group or organizational. Theoretical based on structural equation model in which it is concluded that there is a higher correlation of individual factors affecting productivity with 32%, followed by organizational factors with a correlation of 31% was proposed.

This paper introduces the trade and practice of cutting tonewood, wood used in the production of musical instruments, in both the Appalachian Mountains of the United States and the Carpathian Mountains of Romania. As a work of collaborative ethnography, this work combines the first-person narrative of John Preston, a tonewood cutter in West Virginia and Transylvania, and contextual framing and analysis by Jasper Waugh-Quasebarth. Through the text we explore how the production of tonewood creates global, affective connections between mountain regions and reveals unique challenges to the global forests of the Appalachian and Carpathian Mountains.

This case study is about a Syrian woman refugee in Jordan. Salma (a virtual name) is one of the thousand hundred Syrians who were forced to leave their resident place seeking for safety. Every one of them has a story of suffering. Salma is a 32 years old female. She was living in Der’a, in the South of Syria. We have interviewed and asked her some questions regarding her status in Jordan as a refugee, and her previous situation in Syria before the last war in Syria. She was permitted to talk freely. It is worth to mention that this woman represented several aspects far away from the refugee’s status. She has experienced some difficulties as a woman in her country within her family frame as a wife and mother. When becoming a refugee, she had released some of her former problems and experienced new problems. This study made a comparison between the past and present and prospected future hopes.
