Considerations of theater art in the way of their constitution within the framework of the festival event are of great importance for the promotion of theater, performances and protagonists, as well as the formation of a serious and critically aware festival audience. The Festival of Theater Creativity in Brcko began in 1974 with the intention of being a meeting place for theater companies, plays, authors and other protagonists, initially from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and later from the region that includes the South Slavic area. In its half-century existence (1974 – 2023), forty theater meetings were held, since from 1991 to 2001 it was not organized due to the deconstruction and dehumanization of South Slavic society, when theater art had to give way to violence and destruction. From the first to the seventeenth, the festival was called Meetings of Professional Theaters of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that is Meetings of Continuity. The 18th Festival, which was organized on the eve of the devastating events, in 1991, was called the “Professional Theater Review of Bosnia and Herzegovina”. After a break of ten years, they were organized and renewed in 2002, and from then until 2021 there are Meetings of theaters / theaters of Bosnia and Herzegovina. From the twenty-second to the twenty-third year of the third millennium, the festival was transformed into the International Theater Encounters of the Brcko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the five decades of its existence, the program conception of the meeting of the theater was carefully and thoughtfully created. From year to year, the quality level of the presentation and what was offered to the festival audience and the professional public was raised. The public lives for the festival, which contributed to a kind of symbiosis of one Festival and one city. Theater actors and production companies experienced the same thing in an almost identical way. In this way, the theater culture from the northern theater port on the Sava spread throughout the region of the South Slavic environment and left an indelible mark in the cultural and theater festival history.
